Nature of Business:
You could say there’s really nothing special about O’Donoghue’s, which makes it pretty special. With all the gimmicks, shtick and themes that bars try to pull off, a good-old watering hole here and there ain’t so bad. Sports addicts — particularly fans of European games like soccer and rugby — fill the barstools during big games and the wee hours, while nights bring out everything from Hoboken hipsters to rowdy swillers. Guest DJs and local bands provide the majority of the tunes at a sane, non-deafening volume — classy touch for those who actually enjoy talking to their drinking pals. The decent beer selection should quench most thirsts, and even beer snobs will be cool settling when they hear how modest the pricing is. Unless it’s a rare occasion, chances are the only thing you’ll have to wait for at O’Donoghue’s is your turn at Golden Tee or a shot at Big Buck Hunter. —
