Shane’s first tentative steps as a radio presenter began at an early age, when as a fourteen year-old, he hosted his first programme on a pirate radio station (CBC) in his hometown of Clonmel, County Tipperary. It was a hobby that continued throughout his school days.

In 1993, the decision was made to go full-time into broadcasting after he secured an on-air position with a local radio station in the West of Ireland, called Galway Bay FM. A steady progression over three years culminated in a very successful 18-month period as Breakfast Show presenter, before taking up the offer of a contract with state broadcaster RTE-2FM in 1996.

He moved to sport in 2000 and very quickly hosted RTE Radio’s Olympics coverage from Sydney. A two-year period hosting the 4-hour Saturday Sport programme on RTE Radio 1 followed between 2001-2003, in addition to his double-act with Ryan Tubridy on the award-winning “Full Irish” breakfast show on RTE-2FM (2002-2005).

After 8 years on national radio, Shane O’Donoghue eventually made the move into television in 2004. He now juggles many “balls” on tv, quite literally; with his role as a presenter/reporter and commentator with RTE TV Sport; his presenting duties on the National Lottery’s Lotto draws and his interviewing and reporting role within the prestigious BBC Golf commentary team on television.

Shane O’Donoghue is a leading golf broadcaster. Since 2004, he has been a member of the prestigious BBC TV commentary team, widely recognised as the finest broadcasters of the sport in the world. Shane moved into the role of interviewer/reporter with the team in 2008 and samples of his work are available to view in this section.

Shane O’Donoghue has enjoyed a growing reputation as an MC and Event Host over the last five years. Working mainly in the sports arena, he has built up an impressive client list which is highlighted by the amount of repeat business that he generates.

The keystone of his work in this area is top quality personal service, with an emphasis on preparation, good communication and consistent delivery.

Clients include: European Tour, IMG, Failte Ireland, Irish Sports Council, Horse Racing Ireland, Irish Institute of Sport, PGA Irish Region, AIB, Hennessy, Lexus, An Post, Audi and Volkswagen.

On November 27th 2007, Shane O’Donoghue launched his first book, Legends in their Spare Time. A biographical account of nine of Ireland’s greatest amateur golfers, the book, which was published in hardback, sold out its first print run over the Christmas and new year period.
